Who We Serve
The MAISD serves 11 public school districts within Muskegon County's 557 square miles. Approximately 25,845 public school students, 2,218 public school academy (charter) students, and 1,185 nonpublic school students are enrolled for the 2015-16 school year.
Over 1,000 preschool students are served through Head Start of Muskegon/Oceana while 153 families enjoy services through the Early Head Start program. Both federally-funded programs are managed by the MAISD and local school districts. Over 750 children attend state-funded preschools at both public schools and private providers.
The MAISD provides career and technical education to over 720 high school juniors and seniors from throughout the county through the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC). Over 135 middle school students attend the MACTC’s week-long Summer Fun program as well.
In 2015-16, there are 3,695 special education students within the MAISD service area—3,511 receive services from their local school districts while the remaining SCI/SXI, Autistic, and MoCI students attend the MAISD's center-based program at Wesley School. Monitoring these programs is a mandated service provided by the MAISD.
In addition, over 150 students are enrolled in the Early College program for the 2015-16 school year.
