HIGH SCHOOL CAREER FAIR

The Career and Technical Education Department of the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District, representatives of area high schools, Baker College, Muskegon Community College, and the Muskegon Chamber of Commerce, proudly announce:

High School Career Fair 2008
Thursday, April 17, 2008
8:45 A.M. – 1:30 P.M.

The L.C. Walker Arena and Conference Center (955 4th Street, Muskegon, MI 49440) expects to host approximately 2,700 high school juniors for this event.  Students from 28 high schools in Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, Newaygo, and Kent Counties attend this event each year.

Goals:
  • To give students an opportunity to learn firsthand about the tremendous variety of careers available to them by talking with community members working in those careers.
  • To give students an opportunity to find out about colleges, technical schools, and branches of the military that offer programs that will help students meet their career goals.
  • To emphasize to students the importance of higher education and training.
  • To supplement the career education efforts of the area high schools.

Statistics:
  • Approximately 2,700 high school students
  • Approximately 130 community members representing their careers
  • Approximately 55 representatives of colleges, technical schools, and branches of the military.
  • 25 members of the CAREER FAIR 2007 Steering Committee.

Features:
  • Career representatives will be positioned in the Arena.
  • Colleges, technical schools, and branches of the military will be stationed in the Annex.

This fair is arranged “arena style” in the Arena with the career representatives standing at tables arranged by the six Michigan Career Pathways. Students are scheduled for 1 ¼ hr. visits throughout the day and will talk to the presenters about their chosen careers. Presenters do not prepare a formal talk but provide table displays that catch the students’ attention and start the conversation.

Fifty-five universities, colleges, trade schools, and branches of the military will be available in the Annex of the building to talk about their educational programs and answer student questions.
