What Is the Great Start Collaborative of Muskegon County?
In February of 2005, Governor Granholm created the Michigan Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) to oversee the Great Start Program.
Our Vision
The Great Start Collaborative of Muskegon County established a vision of success for all children: A great Start for every child in Muskegon County: Safe, Healthy, and Eager to Succeed in School and in Life.
Our Mission
In order to achieve the Collaborative's vision, members of the Great Start Collaborative of Muskegon County have set out on a journey united under the following mission:
The purpose of the Great Start Collaborative of Muskegon County is to assure a coordinated system of community resources and supports which assist all Muskegon County families in providing a Great Start for their children from birth through age five.
Our Values
- Working with Passion and Dedication on behalf of our children.
- Being Family-Centered and Empowering of families and children.
- Operating from a basis of Respect for All.
- Honoring Diversity and working to ensure Equal Opportunity for all.
- Working toward the Common Good of all children and the whole community.
- Operating with Wisdom and Creativity which results in Excellence.
- Creating Sustainability for our work.
The Process
Upon the completion of an extensive assessment and evaluation process, the community will know what its assets and resources are so it can put them to work in ways that help to build community engagement, give hope, and build a better future for young children and their families.
Grant Money
Muskegon County received a grant of $150,000 to create the Muskegon County Great Start Collaborative.
Timeline
By September 30, 2007, the following tasks will be completed: 1) create the Great Start Collaborative, 2) conduct a community research based, data driven needs assessment, 3) create a long-term strategic plan for children 0-5 years old and their parents in Muskegon County.
