Assessment & Accountability

Assessment is an essential component of the teaching/learning process. Without effective classroom assessment, it is impossible for us to know whether our students are "hitting the target" - that is, learning what is important for them to learn. However, the significance of classroom assessment extends beyond the role of measuring learning. What we assess, how we assess and evaluate, and how we communicate results send a clear message to students about what is worth learning, how it should be learned, what elements of quality are most important, and how well we expect them to perform. - Jay McTighe and Steven Ferrara, Ph.D.
