The West Shore Consortium for Dynamic History Instruction - a joint project of the Ottawa and Muskegon Area Intermediate School Districts
Funded by a 3-year Teaching American History Grant from the Federal Government, the purpose of the West Shore Consortium for Dynamic History instruction is to assist 5th through 12th grade teachers in Muskegon and Ottawa counties with their content knowledge and understanding of major historical themes and create new excitement about teaching and learning history.

The Smithsonian Associates will be visiting West Michigan to offer 3 one-day sessions to area teachers. Don't miss out though! These events are approaching soon and filling up fast! Don't forget, your substitute costs are covered and theres NO registration fee!
Update
As we draw our first 3-year grant to a close, we are pleased to announce that our application for a second 3-year grant was approved by the Federal Department of Education! This will allow us to continue to bring high-quality US History professional development to teachers in Muskegon and Ottawa counties. Document Based Question Project: 9/30 &12/3/08
Secondary teachers: Looking for new and effective ways to engage your students? Trainers from the Document Based Questions Project will guide you through their innovative and effective materials for US History during this 2 day event. You must attend BOTH days. Each participant will receive a classroom set of the US History materials as well as a teacher's guide.

The West Shore Consortium will be maintaining a Web Log (BLOG) to keep current and future participants informed about what we're up to! This should allow us more flexibility in communicating with everyone! Read our posts and leave your own comments and questions there!
The West Shore Consortium For Dynamic History Instruction is funded by the Teaching American History Grant. The federal grant will provide $886,130 from October 2005 - October 2008 or 96.35% of the total cost of the project. An additional $32,314 or 3.65% of the total costs of the program will be financed by non-governmental sources. The Teaching American History grant program is a discretionary grant program funded under Title II-C, subpart 4, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
