Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I choose which events I want to go to or do I have to go to all of them?
A: You are not required to attend EVERY Grant sponsored event in order to participate in any of them.  You may select which ones suit your needs the most and participate in only those events.  However, there are participation requirements that must be met in order to participate in certain expanded opportunities.  Check out the "Core Elements" and "Espanded Opportunities" sections of this site for more information

Q: I want to attend an event, but my district will not release me due to budget restrictions and substitute costs, any suggestsion?
A:  We have structured the grant to address just such a situation.  With ANY of our events, there is NEVER a cost to a local district.  We are able to reimburse your district for your substitute teacher costs - they only need to invoice us for the amount and a check will be sent. Further, the only costs ever incurred by participants are for graduate credits through GVSU...and even that cost is usually ofset by your participation stipend!

Q:  I wasn't able to participate in any of last year's events.  Can I still get on board for any of this year's?
A:  ABSOLUTELY! You may begin participating in grant programs at ANY time over the 3 year duration of grant funding.  The only restriction is that you must complete 2 core elements (Solloquium, Summer Institute, Focused Learning Community) before participating in any expanded opportunitites.
