Michigan Aerospace Challenge

The Michigan Aerospace Challenge program offers upper elementary, middle and high school students an exciting way to engage in hands-on, real world, science, math and technology using model rocketry.

Upper elementary students participate in the Michigan Aerospace Challenge Elementary Program, which gives students a unique opportunity to:

  • launch a rocket they have built,
  • develop a payload project
  • participate in hands-on activities,
  • attend aviation and aerospace presentations
  • view aerospace and aviation related displays.

The Michigan Aerospace Challenge High Powered Rockets Competition is a two-day event and is directed at middle and high school students. Student teams, from across the state,

  • build a 6' tall high-powered rocket,
  • develop an information gathering payload,
  • create a display,
  • prepare and give an oral presentation,
  • calculate a rocket's potential altitude,
  • measure a rocket's altitude and
  • launch their rocket.

Several categories of the students' work are judged by a team of judges, several from the aerospace field, based on pre-determined criteria. Ribbons, in each category are awarded based on the team's score.
