Amusement Park Physics
Amusement Park Physics provides an opportunity for middle school students to apply their math skills and knowledge of physics principles to the real world setting of an amusement park.
Prior to the "Day at the Park," students learn how to measure distances using their pace lengths, perform calculations for determining time, "g" force, acceleration and angle measurements. At the park, students measure "g" forces, calculate diameters, heights, distances, and velocities of various rides. Students also build two measurement devices - an altimeter and an accelerometer. Nearly 1,000 students from across the state participated in this event last year at Michigan's Adventure, just north of Muskegon.
