Career & Technical Skills Competitions Begin
January marks the kick-off of Career & Technical Skills Organization (CTSO) competitions. CTSOs are groups designed to help students in a career & technical education program, like those offered at the Muskegon Area Career Tech Center (MACTC), develop the technical and leadership skills to succeed in their career paths.
MACTC students from the Business Careers and Internet, Network & Security Technologies programs will compete at the Region One Business Professionals of America (BPA) Workplace Skills competition on January 10, 2015. Last year students earned 38 medals and 16 students advanced to the state competition.
FFA district competition is January 29-30, 2015. Environmental/Veterinary Sciences student Lydia Vanderstelt earned a gold award last year and the opportunity to advance to state competition.
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and SkillsUSA have their regional competitions in February. Allied Health Technologies and Health Science Academy students will compete at the HOSA regional competition to be held at Baker College of Muskegon. Last year 42 students advanced to the state HOSA competition.
Catering & Culinary Management students will compete in the SkillsUSA regional competition to be held at the Culinary Institute of Michigan on February 20, 2014. Last year’s Team Banquet winners earned a sliver medal and the chance to compete at the state competition that spring.
