Learning Objectives:

  • Students will learn more about upcycling
  • Students will sew on a button

Materials:

  • A boring shirt
  • Buttons

Tools:

  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors

Steps:

  1. Pick out an old shirt and get permission to upcycle it 

  2. Collect buttons that you like. Buttons come in lots of colors and shapes. If you do not have buttons at home, you can buy them from the dollar store. Use matching buttons or mix them all up. 

  3. Remove the old buttons. 

  4. Sew the new buttons on!

  5. Take a before and after photo of your shirt. How will you style it differently now that you have new buttons? 

  6. Consider other changes you can make to your shirt.
