Who We Serve

Our Mission Statement

To provide the leadership, programs, and services that enhance the success of everyone we serve.

The MAISD serves 11 public school districts within Muskegon County's 557 square miles.   Approximately 23,767 public school students, 1,928 public school academy (charter) students, and 934 nonpublic school students were enrolled for the 2020-21 school year.

Just under 700 slots are funded for preschool students served through Head Start of Muskegon/Oceana while 165 slots are funded for families to enjoy services through the Early Head Start program.  Both federal programs are managed by the MAISD and local school districts.

The MAISD provides career and technical education to over 720 high school juniors and seniors from throughout the county through the Career Tech Center in Muskegon (CTC).

In 2020-21, there were 4,187 special education students within the MAISD service area—3,845 receive services from their local school districts while the remaining SCI/SXI, Autistic, and MoCI students attend the MAISD's center-based programs at Wesley School. Monitoring these programs is a mandated service provided by the MAISD.

In addition, 576 new and returning scholars received scholarship funding through Muskegon Area Promise for the 2020-21 school year.
